Iranian Diplomat Kidnapped in Pakistan

An Iranian diplomat has been kidnapped and his guard shot dead as they were traveling in the northwest Pakistani city of Peshawar.

According to reports the commercial attaché was on his way to the consulate in Peshawar when his car was stopped by armed gunmen who opened fire on the vehicle before dragging the diplomat out of the car.

The northwest territory of Pakistan remains one of the most violent areas in the Middle East as Islamic militants continue to hold a strong position. Taliban and al-Qaeda militants have used the northwest territory of Pakistan as a base to carry out their attacks in neighboring countries.

Iran condemned the recent kidnapping, calling the incident a “terrorist act” and has looked to Pakistan’s ambassador to bring answers.
