Suicide Bomber in Afghanistan Kills Eight Including U.S. Soldier

A suicide bomber in eastern Afghanistan detonated a car packed with explosives as U.S. convoy past nearby killing seven civilians and a U.S. soldier. The blast came as the convoy was passing by a busy market leaving at least 65 injured, many of them children.

The bomb destroyed a military vehicle and two civilian vehicles while causing severe damage throughout the market located just outside Jalalabad.

According to officials the death toll could rise

Afghanistan has seen a surge in violence over the past year and much of the U.S. effort in the Middle East is being shifted to the country as insurgents continue to launch attacks against foreign forces.
