Greg Oden scored three points in his first full NBA game as the Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Miami Heat, 104-96, on Wednesday night.
Oden scored three points and grabbed two rebounds in 16 minutes in the Blazers win. Oden, the No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, missed all of last season due to microfracture knee surgery. In his first game this season, he suffered an ankle sprain in the first quarter, forcing him to miss six games.
Oden's first NBA points came with 49.4 seconds left in the opening quarter, as he grabbed a rebound over Joel Pryzbilla and threw down a hard one-handed dunk.
Fellow rookie Rudy Fernandez led the Blazers with 25 points, including a clutch spinning jumper as the shot clock expired with 44.9 seconds left in the game. He made all five of his shots in the final quarter, scoring 14 points in the last 12 minutes. Brandon Roy scored 22 points and LaMarcus Aldridge added 14 for the Trail Blazers.
Dwyane Wade led all scorers with 36 points, including a vicious two-hand dunk in traffic in the closing seconds of the game. He added six rebounds, eight assists, two steals and three blocks, leading the Heat in all categories except rebounds. Wade had a franchise-record fourth straight game with at least 30 points.
Michael Beasley and Daequan Cook each scored 11 points for Miami, while Chris Quinn scored 10 and Udonis Haslem finished with 11 rebounds.
