Sarah Palin Plays Down 2012 Presidential Bid, Urges Republican Party to Focus on Here and Now

Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin, speaking at an annual meeting of Republican governors, tried to downplay talk of a presidential bid in 2012 by encouraging those in attendance to focus on what’s in the immediate future.

Palin chose not to talk directly about the Republican loss in the Nov. 4 presidential election only saying the party needed to make the necessary changes that will shape the party’s future.

Dismissing the 2008 presidential election in which she was her party’s vice presidential nominee Palin stated, “The future for us is not the 2012 presidential race, it's next year and our next budget, and the next reforms in our states, and in 2010 we're going to have 36 governors' positions open across the US. That's what we're focused on.”

Recognizing that the party was now the minority Palin told her fellow governors they needed to ensure they didn’t “become the negative party.”
