Rafer Alston and Matt Barnes were ejected after a fight during the Houston Rockets-Phoenix Suns game on Wednesday night.
Late in the third quarter, Barnes, the Suns forward, threw his shoulder into Alston after he set a pick for McGrady, who knocked down a three-point shot. Alston ran up to Barnes and gave him a light shove as both teams began to converge around half-court.
Steve Nash ran into the brawl full speed, when McGrady shoved him to the ground. On his way down, Nash grabbed Alston. Shaquille O'Neal then pushed McGrady and Yao Ming to the ground. Coaches, players and referees began to separate O'Neal, Nash and Alston.
When the refs emerged and the benches were separated, Alston and Barnes were ejected, while O'Neal, Nash and McGrady were each given technical fouls.
The Rockets won the game 94-82 as McGrady scored 22 of his 27 points in the second half, 15 in the third quarter. McGrady, who was 1-for-16 from the field in his previous two games, made 11 of 18 shots, going 9-of-14 in the second half.
Yao Ming added 17 points and 15 rebounds for the Rockets. Aaron Brooks scored 19 and Alston 15 for Houston.
O'Neal scored 18 points to top John Havlicek for 10th place on the all-time NBA scoring list. He also grabbed 13 rebounds and had four blocked shots. With 26,402 points, O'Neal needs 267 to pass Dominique Wilkins into ninth place.
