Cleveland Indians lefty Cliff Lee has been named the American League Cy Young Award winner after the Baseball Writers’ Association of America gave the nod to the ace for a storybook season.
After battling his way back from a minor league demotion in 2007 Lee went on to post one of the most improbable seasons in recent years as he went an MLB best 22-3 with a 2.54 ERA. Lee, 30, led the Indians in not only wins and ERA but strikeouts an innings pitched.
His four complete games were second best in the American League and his WHIP of 1.11 ranked second in the junior circuit as well.
Lee collected 24 of the 28 first place votes and totaled 132 points while second pace finished Roy Halladay of the Toronto Blue Jays finished second in the voting with 71 points.
