NGP, Successor of PSP Unveiled

The rumor mills that were working overtime finally can halt their churning. The much awaited PSP2 or Play Station Portable 2, codenamed NGP, finally has been unveiled by Sony. The multi-billion dollar gaming industry that has been facing stiff competition from smart mobile devices will be back in the game after the device hits the market somewhere in second half of the year.

Piracy Protection

According to an official press release, NGP will be equipped with a 5 inch OLED touch screen, two cameras – both on the front and rear – built in GPS, Wi-Fi, and 3G capabilities. Two thumbsticks have also been included in the device which most users felt was missing in its predecessor. To tackle the menace of piracy, for the first time, game titles would be sold in the form of flash drives that can also store downloadable content using connectivity features of NGP. Also, the regular file format of games has been done away with and a new proprietary format has been introduced by makers of NGP, officials at the launch event held in Japan said.

Android 2.3

Game titles which garner more revenue for the company will also be made available to wide user base of Android phones through an online store titles PlayStation Suite. However, the current version of Android 2.2 is not compatible with the format and only the Android 2.3 based smartphone users will be able to download and buy the games.

A Larger Role

The company is now expected to rely heavily on Internet marketing to make their sales numbers. SEO optimization will thus be the ultimate marketing tool for the company. In the past too, Apple, Nokia, and Samsung has been extensively using SEO optimization and Internet marketing to increase sales conversions. In the case of NGP too, SEO optimization is expected to play a larger role.
