New York Yankees Reportedly Offer CC Sabathia Largest Contract Ever for Pitcher

The New York Yankees, determined to return to rebuild a team that failed to make the playoffs last year, have reportedly offered left-hander CC Sabathia the largest contract ever tendered to a pitcher.

New York’s six-year deal for Sabathia would eclipse the deal the New York Mets signed with Johan Santana last year.

Sabathia posted an 11-2 record with the Milwaukee Brewers after coming over from the Cleveland Indians mid-year.

After a disappointing 2008 campaign in which they finished in third place in the AL East the Yankees have expressed interest in a number of free agents including A.J. Burnett and Derek Lowe.
