A ferry transporting hundreds of people from Java to Sumatra island in Indonesia caught fire early Friday, causing many of the passengers to jump into the water. At least 11 people died in the blaze while nearly 200 others were injured. More than 400 passengers survived.
The cause of the fire is still unclear. The blaze appears to have started on the deck where cars and trucks sit. Transportation Ministry spokesman Bambang Ervan said authorities are investigating the ferry fire and another incident in which two West Java trains collided, killing three people and injuring more than 40 others. "We will investigate both incidents and find out why these are happening quite often," he said.
