A judge in northern Mexico ruled Thursday that pop singer Kalimba will not go to trial on rape charges because there is not enough evidence for a trial. The judge also ordered Kalimba’s release from jail.
Mexican authorities issued an arrest warrant for Kalimba last week just one day before the 28-year-old was arrested in Texas for an immigration violation. Kalimba was deported to Mexico and arrested there on the rape charges. He was accused of raping a 17-year-old girl at a hotel in the state of Quintana Roo last December.
Kalimba, whose full name is Kalimba Kadjhali Marichal Ibar, has always maintained his innocence.
