Hand-crafted, small-batch, award-winning Kentucky Bourbons from the Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection will be sampled at a free tasting on Tuesday, Feb. 1, at downtown Houston bar Reserve 101, located downtown at the corner of Caroline and Dallas, across from House of Blues.
Reserve 101, “not your daddy’s whiskey bar” stocks over 130 varieties of premium whiskeys, as well as other liquors, including beer and wine. To introduce Houstonians to fine whiskey, the bar is offering free tastings every Tuesday in February with advance registration at http://www.Reserve101.com.
The Woodford Reserve tasting will feature Woodford’s Maple Wood- and Seasoned Oak-finished Master’s Collection bourbons matured in select wood casks that introduce subtle flavors. Fewer than 20,000 bottles of these bourbons are available to the market each year. The distillery is a National Historic Landmark in Versailles, Kentucky and has received numerous top national and international awards.
Reserve 101 creates its own infusions, blending whiskey and other liquors with such exotic ingredients as pecans and cinnamon, apples, peaches, peppers and other flavors. It also offers Signature Cocktails and Martinis.
In addition to regulars—downtown workers, executives, Toyota Center concert-goers and basketball fans—Reserve 101 attracts Four Seasons Hotel guests, professional athletes, in-the-know music bands and celebrities such as actor Sean Penn and boxer Oscar de la Hoya. The three-year-old establishment recently doubled its space, expanding into part of a next-door Italian restaurant, where a new kitchen will be added to provide made-on-premises bar foods including barbecue and tacos.
“Happy Hour,” with dollar-off beers and wines and half-price Signature Cocktails runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday with specials just about every day of the week, including Sundays.
