AP Top 25 College Football Scores: #10 Ohio State Buckeyes Keep Big Ten Hopes Alive with Win Over Illinois Fighting Illini

Terrelle Pryor threw for 49 yards and a TD and rushed for 110 yards and a score while Beanie Wells collected 143 yards and a touchdown on the ground as the #10 Ohio State Buckeyes (9-2, 6-1) knocked off the Illinois Fighting Illini (5-6, 3-4) 30-20 in a Big Ten showdown on Saturday.

Pryor got the scoring started in the first quarter with a one-yard keeper but Illinois answered as Juice Williams hit Jeff Cumberland on a 7-yard touchdown pass to even the score at 7-7. Ohio State then took the lead for good late in the first frame as they blocked a punt that went through the endzone for a safety and a 9-7 advantage.

Ohio State built on their lead in the second quarter as Beanie Wells scored from 3-yards out and Pryor found Dane Sanzenbacher on a 20-yard toss to push the score to 23-7. Illinois did manage a pair of field goals from Matt Eller to cut their deficit to 23-13 heading into halftime but they struggled to punch the ball into the endzone all day long.

Both offenses stalled in the third quarter but Ohio State put the game away early in the fourth when Daniel Herron scored on a 12-yard run to push the lead to 30-13. Illinois’ final score came with less than a minute left in the game when Williams hit Chris Duvalt on a 24-yard toss.

Ohio State will face Michigan next week and if they manage to win and Michigan State knocks off Penn State there will be a three-way tie for first atop the Big Ten. Illinois will finish up their season against Northwestern.
