USA Today College Football Top 25 Rankings Week 12: SEC and Big 12 Dominate as Alabama and Texas Tech Keep Top Spots
The USA Today college football Top 25 rankings for Week 12 continues to reflect the dominance of the SEC and Big 12 as the Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas Tech Red Raiders lead the charge for their respective conference.
Alabama holds firm to their #1 ranking as they dealt SEC foe Mississippi State a loss on Saturday and continued to move towards their huge match-up with the #3 Florida Gators in the SEC championship in what will likely determine one of the two teams playing for the BCS title in Miami.
Texas Tech had the week off and held their spot at #2 in the USA Today Top 25 ahead of their showdown with #5 Oklahoma next week which could produce the second team in the BCS title game. Both the Red Raiders and the Sooners enjoyed a week off ahead of the next Saturday’s showdown.
The #3 Florida Gators continue to look like the most impressive team in college football as they dominated South Carolina in an SEC match-up on Saturday. Florida has their eyes set on Alabama as the two edge closer to the SEC championship game where BCS dreams will be won or lost.
Sitting at #4 in the Week 12 USA Today college football rankings are the Texas Longhorns who could still find themselves playing for the Big 12 title if the Oklahoma Sooners manage to beat the Texas Tech Red Raiders next week. Texas lost to Texas Tech by a point earlier this year but beat the Sooners.
Oklahoma, at #5 this week, is hoping a victory over Texas Tech would be enough to leapfrog the Texas Longhorns in the BCS rankings and earn them a trip to the Big 12 championship game. A victory in the Big 12 title game could land them a spot in Miami.
