Kurt Cobain wrote cartoon theme

Kurt Cobain once wrote a song for a children's cartoon, but it was rejected.

The Nirvana frontman - who committed suicide in 1994 - wrote a tune specifically for the animated television series 'Ren and Stimpy', which charted the adventures of a psychotic Chihuahua named Ren and dim-witted cat Stimpy, the show bosses were not impressed by his efforts.

Billy West - who provided the voice of Stimpy - said on podcast Nerdist: "One day this scraggly kid came into the Spumco offices where the series was made and said he wanted to write a song for Ren & Stimpy, and they said, 'Yeah, that's great,' and they threw it in the waste basket, and it was Kurt Cobain."

No one close to 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' singer has confirmed the story but as the cartoon ran from 1991 to 1993 observers have claimed it is possible Kurt could stopped by the cartoon's Los Angeles offices while he was touring with Nirvana.

Kurt was a huge fan of cartoons and the toilet humour of 'Ren And Stimpy' would certainly have struck a chord with the star - who named his first band Fecal Matter.

The late singer struggled with heroin addiction, fame and his public image during the last years of his life and died from a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head at the age of 27.
