American Seniors Association Encourages Debate Post Presidential Election

American Seniors.org is committed to being the voice of conservative seniors in Washington. As the Barack Obama administration is sworn in at our nation’s capitol, we agree with our mostly liberal counterparts at DividedWeFail.com that working together is critical to achieving success in Washington; but what does working together mean? We don’t need another slogan, we need working solutions.

“Divided we fail” is the type of Washington platitude that typically leads to complacent inaction instead of fostering the active debate necessary to achieve true success. It sounds so good, who can argue with the concept? Of course we need to work together, but doing the work is harder than issuing the invitation.

Throughout the election we heard for the need to “unite” because if we don’t we will fail to make necessary changes. Reaching across party aisles is easy if you don’t have to negotiate and compromise with your opponent. With the newly expanded majorities, does anyone really believe that the liberal machines behind organizations such as: MoveOn.org, The Daily Kos, AARP, ACLU and others will insist that “their” representatives compromise with Republicans in the spirit of unity? There are serious problems that need addressing and Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and the other liberals in the House and the Senate are fighting for their agenda, not for unity. Now is the time for seniors to lead the return to the fiscal and philosophical roots of conservatism.

If we don’t stand together to put forward opinions founded on conservative values, true compromise can never be achieved. Successful legislation and policy can only be attained through the political discourse nurtured through vigorous dissent and debate. Our leaders need to know that millions of seniors are conservative and believe their ideas have merit. Today’s generation of seniors didn’t need bailing out when times got tough, they worked and sacrificed to build a great nation. The conservative values that guided them then can help to guide our leaders today.

AmericanSeniors.org was founded to ensure that senior conservatives do have a voice that is heard in Washington. Concentrating their voices at AmericanSeniors.org helps to create a dialogue that will lead to the necessary give and take of  real compromise. For far too long, the liberal AARP has been perceived as the sole organization representing the millions of seniors in our country. The politicians and pundits in Washington and elsewhere need to know that there are millions of seniors that possess conservative values and will vote with politicians that listen. Seniors are no longer represented by one organization.

For all conservative seniors, now is the time and we are the ones you have been waiting for to support. Now is the time to let your voices be heard. They are right about one thing, divided we will fail. But if the millions of senior conservatives that feel left behind in this election will come forward and join us, AmericanSeniors.org will make certain that their voices are heard.
