Schmidt Reckons Facebook is not a Threat for Google

Google has been a giant as far as Internet marketing goes. Lately though social networking websites have made it their business to bring to people everything they want. This does not just mean connectivity and networking tools but also online marketing solutions.

Facebook in particular has found many interesting ways to conduct online marketing and is quickly becoming the most chosen website for almost all purposes.

Total Denial

At the recent World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland, the question of who would win in a Facebook v. Google contest was raised. The outgoing chief executive officer of Google, Eric Schmidt described all such speculation as “completely false.” He confirmed that Facebook’s Internet marketing services are in no way a competition to Google. The simple fact is that Facebook is doing to Google what Google was doing to Microsoft about 3 or so years ago. Thus far, there seems to be room for them all.

Microsoft Bigger Threat

Both Google and Facebook are high on the use of SEO optimization to ensure that the right product reaches the right person every single time. Schmidt was also asked about a situation wherein Facebook would challenge Google for advertising gains and revenue. Again Schmidt denied this possibility and even went on to say that Microsoft posed a larger threat than Zuckerberg’s Facebook. He is quite certain that Google will continue to rule the roost.

Different Role

The change of leadership has been as smooth as the ice on an ice ring as of now and Larry Page is all set to take over as CEO while Schmidt takes on the role of executive chairman on April 4th. Schmidt will continue to remain a full time employee with Google albeit in a slightly different role.
