Indian Warship Sinks In Mumbai Harbor

A 3,000-ton Indian warship sank this week in the Mumbai harbor. The Indian Express reports the INS Vindhyagiri sank Monday afternoon after being struck by a container ship on Sunday. The collision happened at 4:36 pm in the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust as the ship was returning from a “day at sea” for the families of Navy personnel.

The MV Nordlake was headed out to sea when it turned to miss another vessel. It collided with the warship during the turn. A fire broke out in the engine room of the INS Vindhyagiri and water began flooding the hull. No one on the ship was hurt. The ship was towed into the harbor where it sank Monday.

The Indian Express says authorities plan to arrest the merchant ship’s captain.
