Sen. Joe Lieberman to Keep Chairmanship of Senate Homeland Security Committee

Sen. Joe Lieberman will keep his chairmanship of the Senate Homeland Security Committee after a vote of 42-13 in favor of the independent holding his position.

While Lieberman held his post it was only after he was openly criticized by Democrats for his support of John McCain in the 2008 presidential election. Not only did Lieberman support McCain but the Connecticut senator travelled and campaigned with the Republican leading up to the election.

The Democratic led Senate condemned statements made by Lieberman during the campaign but enough supported the move to keep him as chairman of the Homeland Security Committee. Lieberman did lose a subcommittee chair he held on the Environment and Public Works.
