'Coronation Street's Steve McDonald will take the blame for wife Becky looting the corner shop.
The street was left stunned after discovering somebody had stolen £5,000 from Dev and Sunita Alahan in the aftermath of the fatal tram crash in December and the owners have been determined to find out who did it.
Next month they uncover key evidence which proves who the thief is but Steve (Simon Gregson) is determined to save his wife from another prison sentence so confesses before they go to the police.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "Dev and Sunita are horrified that Steve was the one who raided their shop while people were dying. They are hell-bent on justice."
However, Becky (Katherine Kelly) finally comes clean after she sees the sacrifice her husband is making, which leads to catfight between her and Sunita.
But Becky - who took the money to buy nephew Max from sister Kylie - tells the couple why she took the money and they decide not to press charges because, as parents themselves, they are moved by her motive.
Although she won't be charged, Becky faces a struggle to get her marriage back on track as Steve is furious with her actions.
