Drug Addicts: Importances Must Change For Successful Recovery

Drug Addiction: Drug Addicts Stress Wrong Importances

One common aspect to drug addiction, or any activity that robs one of self-respect and dignity, is the loss of importance of every day things.

“What people don’t realize,” comments Mary Rieser, Executive Director for Narconon Drug Rehab Georgia, “is that things that are important to you and me are not important to someone dealing with drug addiction. Drug addicts lose all perspective: drugs, getting drugs, doing whatever it takes, becomes their main importance.

“Does this make them bad people? Of course not. They are addicted. Once in treatment, and they start getting control of their life and addiction, the things that they once considered important start becoming important again. Friends, family, and career start becoming something they want to have again. This is a sign of successful recovery.”

Drug addiction does not have to be a perpetual curse. Get treatment and live a happy drug-free life.

Successes from drug rehab shows that as they move through addiction treatment, importances start shifting in their minds:

“Since starting the objectives course I have realized a lot.

“The past 8 years have been cluttered with not so good things caused by using the environment I’ve been in was not positive, the people I chose to hang out with were negative and I soon lost everything I ever had.

“Drugs became the only thing important to me and I lost any hope I once had.  I know how I am capable of having anything and everything I want.  I have learned what’s good for me to maintain my sobriety because it’s the life I want and I deserve.

Now that I’m clean I’m capable of having those things I lost while I was using.  Friendships I ruined or never wanted before can now occur because I actually care about other things than drugs.

“I also realized a huge thing that was affecting my life.  While I was using I had so many negative factors and now I see how many things and people I need to let go of that aren’t good for me so I can maintain my sobriety.

“Actually, seeing reality and being a part of it makes me see exactly what life I want and need for my new sober beginning.”
