Camilla to take on soap role

Britain's Duchess of Cornwall will take on a cameo role in a radio soap opera.

Camilla - the wife of Prince Charles - is set to make a brief appearance as herself in 'The Archers' to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the BBC Radio 4 drama.

The 63-year-old royal recorded her part at Clarence House just before Christmas, with the episode - which features Camilla, who is president of the National Osteoporosis Society, taking tea at the Grey Gables country house hotel - due to air on February 16.

A royal spokesperson said: "The Duchess of Cornwall has been a huge fan of 'The Archers' for many years. She really liked the idea of helping to celebrate its 60th anniversary, as well as taking the opportunity to talk about osteoporosis."

Palace insiders said Camilla had "wonderful fun" recording her lines, and the show's stars described her as "a natural".

A joke announcement about Camilla's appearance has been posted on Prince Charles' official website.

It reads: "February 16 - The Duchess of Cornwall, President, National Osteoporosis Society, will attend a tea for members, staff and supporters of the Borsetshire National Osteoporosis Society Supporter Group, Grey Gables Hotel, Ambridge, Borsetshire."

On the night the episode is broadcast, Camilla will visit BBC Birmingham, where the show is made, and will attend a reception to mark the programme's anniversary.
