A United States diplomat accused of killing two men will remain in the custody of Pakistani authorities, a judge in Lahore ruled Thursday. Raymond Davis, who was arrested last week, will remain in detention for at least 8 more days while authorities continue their investigation.
“The police officials told the court that investigations have not yet been completed. The judges extended the remand for eight more days,” a deputy prosecutor general told Reuters.
Davis claims he acted in self defense when he shot fatally shot two Pakistani men last week. Davis was driving in an area known as Kartaba Chawk when the men approached him on a motorcycle and attempted to rob him. The U.S. Embassy insists Davis was right in his actions because he “had every reason to believe that the armed men meant him bodily harm.”
The U.S. government has called for Davis’ release saying he as diplomatic immunity.
