A Chinese boy is lucky to be alive after a knife was plunged deep into his face.
Ren Hanzhi, 13, slipped while peeling an apple, causing the 20cm blade to enter his left cheek, just below his eye - luckily missing his brain.
He was rushed to the local hospital in Zhumadian before being transferred to a larger facility where chief surgeon Peng Liwei managed to remove the knife, allowing Ren to make a full recovery.
The boy's father who saw the accident happen said: "I dared not pull out the knife as my son was screaming."
