Queen Elizabeth loved The King's Speech

Britain's Queen Elizabeth was "moved" by a new biopic about her late father.

The monarch recently enjoyed a private screening of 'The King's Speech' and was particularly impressed by the performance of Colin Firth - who portrays her father George VI as he tries to overcome his stammer in the build up to his 1937 coronation - in the film.

A source said: "The Queen loves a good film. 'The King's Speech' is close to the bone as it is a portrayal of her family in the 1930s.

"But she found it moving and enjoyable. She was clearly amused by some of the lighter moments."

The movie also stars Helena Bonham Carter as the late Queen Mother.

The actress recently admitted working on the movie gave her a newfound respect for the late royal.

She said: "She, the Queen Mother, was extraordinary because she was a professional public figure and expert at it.

"You do all the reading but ultimately you have to serve the story. I took what was relevant and I watched a bit. Obviously I don't look like her, I hope. No, I don't mean that in a disrespectful way, I mean her latter years!"
