John Taylor Skilling, the youngest child of ex-Enron CEO Jeffrey Skilling, was found dead of an apparent drug overdose on Tuesday. The 20-year-old’s body was found in his dorm room at Chapman University in Orange County, California. Police found several bottles of prescription drugs beside the body.
Jeffrey Skilling, who is serving 24 years in prison on 19 counts of fraud, conspiracy and insider trading for his involvement in the collapse of Enron, has requested permission from the Federal Bureau of Prisons to attend his son’s funeral.
Skilling’s lawyer, Daniel Petrocelli, has called John Taylor a “wonderful young man” who was “very close” to his father. Friends of John Taylor told police he was upset over a recent breakup with his girlfriend. They became worried when he did not show up for dinner, so they went to his dorm and looked in windows. The students called police after seeing John Taylor lying on his bed. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police say there were no signs of foul play. Toxicology test results are pending.
