AP Top 25 College Football Wednesday: #14 Ball State Looks to Stay Perfect in Showdown with Central Michigan
There is more on the line Wednesday night than just a perfect record for the #14 Ball State Cardinals (10-0, 6-0), the MAC Conference title is still in doubt and when they face the Central Michigan Chippewas (8-2, 6-0) who could lock up the West with a victory.
Ball State has been dominant within conference play, allowing just 90 points over their six games while piling 227 points on the board offensively. That offense ranks 15th nationally with 36.7 points per game and is led by junior running back MiQuale Lewis who averages 127.3 yards per game and has 17 TDs on the year while junior QB Nate Davis averages 264.7 passing yards per game and has been intercepted just six times on the year.
While the Cardinals have put together an perfect year thus far they’ll be facing a Chippewas squad that has captured the last two MAC West titles and could win their third straight with a victory on Wednesday. Central Michigan already knocked off Western Michigan, the last opponent left for Ball State.
Central Michigan relies almost exclusively on the passing game and the accurate arm of quarterback Dan LeFevour who has been picked off three times in 254 passing attempts. Ball State has been vulnerable to the pass and the Chippewas will look to exploit that on Wednesday. LeFevour happens to be the team’s leading rusher as well, collecting 450 yards on the ground and five TDs this year.
The game will be played in Mount Pleasant, Michigan with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
