Don Wakamatsu has become the first Asian-American manager in Major League Baseball after accepting the job offer from the Seattle Mariners.
Wakamatsu spent last year as the bench coach for the Oakland Athletics and before that spent five years with the Texas Rangers. The 45-year-old spent nearly his entire professional playing career in the minor leagues but did catch 18 games in a Chicago White Sox uniform in 1991, all those games when knuckleballer Charlie Hough was on hill.
While Wakamatsu had no MLB managerial experience he did head clubs in the Arizona League, California League, Texas League and Eastern League.
