U.S. President George Bush Criticized by Environmentalists

According to environmentalists in the United States the changes to the Endangered Species Act proposed by President George Bush could have devastating effects on animals and plants currently facing extinction.

The activists say Bush’s plan to make it easier for drilling, mining and large construction projects by neglecting to conduct assessments from experts would result in the loss of several species.

Those who support Bush have argued the assessments are time consuming and push up the cost of projects. They are in favor of allowing federal agencies to assess those projects.

Bush is nearing the end of his term and many are accusing the President of trying to push through last-minute bills before President-elect Barack Obama takes office.

While Bush could pass the measure a spokesman for the Obama team has already said upon entering office he would review the last-minute bills and work to repeal those that are not in the interest of the country.
