Amid growing acts of piracy of the Somali coast and around the world several nations bordering the Red Sea have agreed to meet to outline plans to combat the issue.
The meeting, held in Cairo, includes officials from Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Yemen.
It was a Saudi oil tanker, the Sirius Star, that was hijacked on Saturday. That tanker was carrying 2 million barrels of oil worth $100 million and a crew of 25-members. It is now docked off the coast of Somalia with the pirates said to be demanding $25 million for its release.
Combating the attacks has become a priority for many nations sending goods through the region.
Most of the pirate hijackings are resolved by paying a ransom but many leaders have said that act simply encourages further seizures. Several shipping companies have begun to weigh the option of different routes to transport their shipments but that could result in increased prices for the goods.
