Jonathan Dwyer rushed for 128 yards and a pair of touchdowns, Josh Nesbitt added 93 yards rushing and a TD and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (8-3, 5-3) rushing attack racked up 472 yards against the #23 Miami Hurricanes (7-4, 4-3) en route to a 41-23 blowout in a key ACC matchup that left the ACC Coastal picture muddled.
Heading into the game the Hurricanes had the nation’s 14th ranked rushing defense, allowing 103.7 yards per game but the Yellow Jackets ripped apart the Miami defense with an offense that ran 56 of their 63 plays on the ground.
The first quarter didn’t really show what was to come as Georgia Tech scored the only points of the frame with a Scott Blair 21-yard field goal but they extended the lead to 10-0 in the second when Michael Johnson picked off Robert Marve and returned it 26-yards for a touchdown.
Matt Bosher cut the Hurricanes deficit to 10-3 with a 24-yard field goal but Dwyer wasted little time getting the Yellow Jackets back on the board as he scored on a 58-yard run and then added a 6-yard touchdown run to give Georgia Tech a 24-3 halftime lead,
The third quarter proved no different for the Hurricanes as Blair got the ball rolling for the Jackets with a 30-yard field goal and after Dedrick Epps scored on an 18-yard pass from Marve to get the Hurricanes to within 27-10 Georgia Tech used the running game to put Miami away. Nebitt scored on a one-yard run and Lucas Cox broke a 32-yard touchdown run and Tech carried a 41-10 lead into the fourth.
Miami added a pair of touchdowns in the fourth but the game was well in hand as the Yellow Jackets scored the upset.
