American Teen Among 3 Killed in Shooting in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico

An American teenager was one of three killed in a shooting over the weekend in the Mexican border state of Chihuahua. Prosecutor’s office spokesman Arturo Sandoval said the teens were looking at cars at a dealership in Ciudad Juarez when they were gunned down Saturday at 4:22 p.m. At least 18 bullet casings from an AK-47 were recovered at the scene. AK-47s are commonly used by drug traffickers.

The victims have been identified as 16-year-old Carloa Mario Gonzalez Bermudez, 16-year-old Cedar Yalin Miramontes Jimenez and 15-year-old Juan Carlos Echeverri Jr. Bermudez and Jimenez were both from Ciudad Juarez. Echeverri was from El Paso, Texas.

The motive of the shooting is still unclear. United States authorities are looking into the incident, according to a spokeswoman for the State Department.
