Savannah State University Remains on Lockdown Following Shooting on Campus

The campus of Savannah State University remains on lockdown following an early afternoon shooting that has left at least one student hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

According to reports the shooting took place at the University Commons when two students became involved in an altercation and one brandished a gun, firing twice and hitting the second student in the arm and abdomen.

The injured student was rushed to the hospital and is undergoing emergency surgery.

Savannah State University immediately sent out a text message warning to students and faculty informing them that the campus was on lockdown and all students should remain indoors. The SWAT team and police arrived on campus and are believed to be looking for the shooter.

Savannah State University is the oldest public Historically Black University in the state of Georgia and has 3,200 students.
