Corrie stars injured in on-screen cat fight

Coronation Street's Vicky Enwistle and Katy Kavanagh have been injured during a staged cat fight.

The actresses - who play loudmouth Janice Battersby and factory girl Julie Carp in the ITV1 soap - were left covered in blood after the scripted scene, which saw Janice throw a chair and violently pin her co-star to a wall, went wrong.

An 'Corrie' insider told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Katy sat there looking sorry for herself while Vicky soldiered on after being treated. It's an all-action plotline and will make for terrific TV.

"Things were calmed down eventually. But the scenes will have to be re-filmed and Katy's lip covered up to make it look normal again. Bosses take health and safety issues seriously and this should never have happened. There was a fight co-ordinator watching the action."

The dramatic scenes will be part of a huge bust-up between the pair in Weatherfield's Underworld knicker factory next month, which will eventually see Janice - who has been in 'Coronation Street' for 14 years - depart the cobbles.

After announcing her decision to leave the soap last year, it was rumoured Vicky was quitting following clashes with executive producer Phil Collinson.

A show insider said at the time: "Phil is a brilliant producer but is uncompromising which makes him a bit like Marmite - people love him or find him very tough."
