Iran Puts to Death Israeli Man Convicted of Spying

An Israeli man convicted of sending “sensitive information on military, defense and research centers” has been put to death in Iran.

Iran announced that Ali Ashtari, a telecoms engineer, was executed on Monday after his appeal was dismissed. According to Iranian officials Ashtari had been recruited by Israeli secret service to intercept information pertaining to Iran’s military and its nuclear program.

Israel has denied using Ashtari as a spy and have said they are unfamiliar with the situation but the 45-year-old seemingly made a confession in which he stated, “It was my mistake and perhaps I feared going to the intelligence ministry, and this fear was the reason why I kept choosing the wrong path.”
