Jimmy Connors, the tennis legend known for his fiery demeanor, was arrested on Friday night outside the basketball arena on the UC Santa Barbara campus after failing to comply with police orders.
Connors was on the college campus to watch the Gauchos take on the #1 North Carolina Tar Heels but never made it inside after getting into a confrontation with police. He was taken to a Santa Barbara County jail where he was booked and released.
The 56-year-old Connors was a dominant tennis player through the 1970s holding the #1 ranking for five consecutive years. Over his career he won an Australian Open, two Wimbledon crowns and five U.S. Open titles. He also collected a pair of Grand Slam titles with his doubles partner Ilie Năstase.
