Top High School Basketball Team in Florida May Not Compete in Playoffs

by Daun Lee

The Michael M. Krop Sr. High is easily the #1 high school basketball team in the state. One of their star players has an immigration status that is not acceptable. If the school decides to take the case up they might have to consult an immigration attorney.

From the Bahamas

Brain Delancy is a 19 year old student who is the best player on the team. Owing to his great playing skills, the Michael M. Krop Sr. High has a reputation as being almost unbeatable. Delancy is a native from the Bahamas. If his scores are devaluated, it would mean that the school would lose its status as the best team in the state and will most likely be unable to compete in the playoffs without the help of their star player and because of rule and law violations.

Situation Unresolved

The Florida High School Athletic Association states that the school hasn’t done their job properly and should have checked the student’s immigration status beforehand. An immigration lawyer might be the one who can explain the situation to the school. Currently the school refuses to agree to the association’s verdict which would disqualify almost all their points.

Back and Forth

Delancy has hired an immigration attorney to help him fight his case. The lawyers have released a statement saying that if Delancy has a right to an education in the country, he surely has the right to play basketball as long as he maintains a 2.0 GPA. The association refuses to accept this argument saying that using an ineligible player to win games is against the rules of any American sport’s league.
