Tony Romo threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns, Terrell Owens had seven catches for 213 yards and a TD and Marion Barber collected 109 yards of rushing and receiving as the Dallas Cowboys (7-4) used a big second quarter to beat the San Francisco 49ers (3-8) 35-22 on Sunday for their second straight win.
San Francisco twice had opportunities to find the endzone in the first quarter but both times had to settle for Joe Nedney field goals as the 49ers carried a 6-0 lead into the second quarter.
Romo made the 49ers pay for their inability to cross the goal line as he hit Owens on a 75-yard touchdown pass and Dallas had a 7-6 lead. That was extended to 9-6 when Dallas blocked a punt and the ball went through the back of the endzone for a safety. Nick Folk then added a pair of field goals to push the Cowboys lead to 15-6 and when Romo hit Martellus Bennett on a one-yard TD toss with 52 seconds left in the half Dallas had 22-6 advantage at the break.
Dallas continued their surge in the third quarter as Patrick Crayton pulled in a 10-yad touchdown pass from Romo and the 49ers were only able to stop the bleeding with Nedney’s third field goal of the game.
Folk countered the Nedney field goal with a 47-yarder early in the fourth quarter and after Isaac Bruce hauled in an 18-yard touchdown pass from Shaun Hill to get San Fran within 32-16 Folk tacked on his fourth field goal of the game with 5:06 left to seal the game.
