NFL Scores Week 12: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Hand Detroit Lions 11th Straight Loss

Jeff Garcia threw for 165 yards and a pair of touchdowns, Warrick Dunn collected 90 yards and a TD and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (8-3) overcame a 17-0 first quarter deficit to beat up the winless Detroit Lions (0-11) 38-20 on Sunday.

The Lions jumped to a 17-0 lead after Calvin Johnson hauled in a 15-yard touchdown pass from Daunte Culpepper, Daniel Bullocks picked up a fumble and went 44-yards for a TD and Jason Hanson added a 38-yard field goal and it looked like Detroit would finally find their elusive win. It wasn’t to be.

Tampa regrouped in the second quarter and Dunn got things started with a 13-yard touchdown run. Garcia then found Ike Hilliard on a 36-yard TD pass to get the Bucs to within three and then Garcia hit Jerramy Stevens on a 24-yard touchdown toss and a 21-17 halftime lead.

Things continued to go downhill for the Lions in the second half as Clifton Smith returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown to put the Bucs in front 28-17 and then Ronde Barber picked off Culpepper and went 65-yards for a touchdown to cap a run of 35 unanswered points for Tampa.

Detroit’s only points after the first quarter came from Jason Hanson who kicked a 40-yard field goal late in the third quarter but the Lions were clearly already done for the day.
