BCS Standings Week 6: Alabama Crimson Tide Hold on to #1, Texas and Oklahoma Follow
The BCS standings for Week 6 have been released and while the Oklahoma Sooners jumped two spots to land at #3 they still trail their Big 12 South rival Texas Longhorns who inched up one spot to #2 and both teams trail the undefeated #1 Alabama Crimson Tide.
Oklahoma laid the hammer on the then #2 Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday but their win wasn’t enough to leapfrog the Longhorns, a team that beat them earlier this year.
The BCS standings could play a huge role in who plays in the Big 12 championship game later this year. With Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech all tied atop the South the team with the highest BCS ranking would get the ticket and a win in the Big 12 championship would likely result in a trip to Miami to play for the BCS national championship.
For the Florida Gators their #4 BCS ranking means little because they still control their own destiny. The Gators need to take care of business against Florida State next week and will then face the Crimson Tide in the SEC championship. The winner of that game will almost certainly be playing for the BCS national championship.
USC moved up one spot to #5 in the BCS standings but they remain a long shot for a BCS national championship berth as they don’t even lead the Pac-10.
