NFL Scores Week 12: Atlanta Falcons Get Big NFC South Win Over Carolina Panthers

Michael Turner rushed for 117 yards and four touchdowns, Matt Ryan threw for 259 yards and Harry Douglas collected 92 yards receiving and 93 yards on punt returns including a 61-yard return for a touchdown as the Atlanta Falcons (7-4) knocked off the Carolina Panthers (8-3) 45-28 on Sunday to climb to within one game of the NFC South leaders.

The Falcons jumped to a 17-0 first half lead as Jason Elam kicked a 23-yard field goal, Douglas scored on a 7-yard run and Turner pounded in a TD from one-yard out. John Kasay stopped the bleeding for the Panthers with a 21-yard field goal but those were the only points Carolina would put on the board in the first half.

Carolina came out a much more determined team in the third quarter as DeAngelo Williams scored on a 5-yard run and Kasay added a 21-yard and it looked like the Panthers momentum in their favor but Turner added his second TD of the game, a 4-yarder in the opening minute of the final frame, to give the Falcons a 24-13 advantage.

Jake Delhomme then found the endzone from 12-yards out and after the Panthers converted their two-point attempt they trailed by just three. Once again Turner answered for the Falcons as he scored from one-yard out on a fourth and goal for the 10-point cushion.

The Atlanta defense then stopped the Panthers and forced them to punt from their own endzone and Douglas took the kick 61-yards for a touchdown to seal the game at 38-21 with just under five minutes left. Carolina managed to put points on the board when Delhomme hit Muhsin Muhammad on a 16-yard touchdown pass but Turner hammered home his fourth TD with a 16-yard run in the final minute of the game.
