Georgetown Beats Syracuse in Top 15 Matchup

Hoyas pull away in final minutes to put down Orange

The Georgetown Hoyas traveled to Syracuse, New York last night to take on the Orange in another great match-up during rivalry week.  These two teams have a history going back to current Hoyas head coach John Thomspon III's father beating Syracuse in the final game of their Manley Field House over 30 years ago.

Thompson's team rode a winning streak of six games into the Carrier Dome to face a Syracuse team that had lost two straight at home and has been the subject of point shaving rumors.  These rumors seem to have little to do with fact and more to do with the highly ranked and supremely talented Orange losing games many feel they should have won.

The Hoyas trailed with 5:00 on the clock, but two seconds later, after a dunk by Nate Lubick, they started to pull away.  A 9-0 run sealed the deal and allowed the Hoyas to walk out victorious, staying within striking distance of the top team in the Big East, #4 Pittsburgh.

The Big East has seven teams ranked among the top 25 in the nation.  With the loss last night, Syracuse falls into last place among them with a record of 20-5 and all of their losses in conference play.
