A plane crash in Southern Ireland on Thursday left 6 people dead and 6 others injured. The crash occurred at the Cork Airport around 9:50 a.m. The Irish Aviation Authority said the Manx2 daily commuter flight from Belfast went down on its third attempt to land in the fog. It crashed on runway 17 and burst into flames.
Brendan McAleese, the cousin of Ireland president Mary McAleese, was among the dead. The injured were taken to Cork University Hospital where four of them are in serious condition.
"We are working with all relevant authorities to establish what happened,” Manx2 said in a statement. "We would like to express our sincere sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic accident."
