Nicole Richie's daughter plays with make-up

Nicole Richie's daughter likes to wear her lipstick.

The fashion designer - who is just about to release her House of Harlow 1960 clothes collection - says three-year-old Harlow loves nothing more than to get her hands on her mother's make-up box and experiment with the products.

She said: "She's still too young to understand fashion, but she loves to play with my make-up and tries on my lipstick. I just let her do it because it's part of being a girl and part of experimenting. It's all in good fun."

And Nicole - who also has an 18-month-old son Sparrow with her husband Joel Madden - says Harlow is more adept with a lipstick than she is.

Speaking at the Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York City at an event to mark the start of New York Fashion Week, she added: "She's very good at it and very careful with it. She doesn't go outside the lines - not even once. I am the opposite. I'm the girl who can't wear red lipstick because I'll forget about it and it ends up on the side of my face. She may have to start teaching me to be more careful."
