Missing Swiss Twins May Have Been Killed By Father

Swiss police say Matthias Schepp wrote a note saying he killed his 6-year-old twin daughters before committing suicide. Alessia and Livia Schepp were reported missing by their mother, Irina Lucidi, on January 30.

The girls were last seen on a ferry en route to Corsica on January 31. Three days later, Schepp committed suicide by jumping in front of a train in Cerignola, Italy. Authorities have been searching for the twins since. Interpol issued an international Yellow Notice missing persons alert earlier this month.

While on the run with the girls, Schepp sent Lucidi eight letters. The first seven contained a total of $6,000. In the final letter dated February 3 -- the day of Schepp’s death – the 43-year-old said he killed Alessia and Livia.

"The last envelope dated February 3 contained a letter in which the father said he killed the two girls, saying he was in Cerignola [southern Italy] where he was about to kill himself," says police spokesman Jean-Christophe Sauterel. "I can confirm that in his letter he also said that they did not suffer and were resting in peace."

Authorities continue to search for Alessia and Livia. Alessia and Livia both have blonde hair and are about 3 feet, 9 inches tall. Alessia was last seen wearing a red and white stripped T-shirt, a brown jacket, jeans and black shoes. Livia was last seen wearing a green T-shirt, purple jacket, jeans and Adidas shoes.
