Brits choose pets over lovers

A poll has shown that 19 per cent of Brits would rather have a pet than a relationship.

Many animal lovers in the nation choose to put their furry friends before love, with 81 per cent of dog owners saying they would break up with someone who didn't like their four-legged companion.

In the poll of 3,000 dog and cat owners it was also revealed that 79 per cent would refuse to give up their pet for love, with 17 per cent of owners preferring to spend time with their animals than with their other halves.

The survey was conducted to mark the release of 'Marmaduke' which is out in the UK on Blu-ray and DVD on Monday (14.02.11).
