Pete Wentz's friends believe he can save his marriage if he quits touring.
The Black Cards rocker is said to be "in denial" over his split from Ashlee Simpson - who filed for divorce earlier this week after almost three years of marriage - but pals think a reconciliation could only happen if he agrees to put the singer-and-actress and their two-year-old son Bronx first.
A source told RadarOnline.com: "Pete is in denial that the marriage is over. He seems to think that if he turns on the charm he can sweet talk Ashlee into changing her mind and giving it another go.
"What he doesn't get though is that Ashlee has been unhappy for some time and she's pretty adamant that she's making the right decision.
"I'm pretty sure though that if Pete committed to quit touring and promised Ashlee that he would be there full time for her and Bronx, then she would change her mind."
Though Pete, 31, wants to save his marriage, friends don't think the former Fall Out Boy rocker would be able to turn his back on life on the road.
The insider continued: "That's just not going to happen. When Fall Out Boy went on hiatus Pete was miserable - he really missed the camaraderie of being in a band and the thrill of performing live. So the next thing you know he'd formed another band and was right back to where he started - in the studio all the time and touring.
"That's not the life Ashlee wants for her and Bronx - waiting at home for daddy to come home. They've basically hit a stalemate and neither side is willing to budge.
"So all of Pete's attempts to win Ashlee back are going to be pretty much in vain."
While Pete has been busy with his musical career, Ashlee, 26, has kept a relatively low-profile since giving birth to Bronx and friends of the former couple believe they struggled to find the right balance.
An insider told People: "Ashlee was the one with Bronx a lot of the time, and that's a lot. Ashlee loves being a mom, but she also loves being a performer and she wants to badly get back to that.
"Pete was away from Ashlee and Bronx a ton working himself, and the balance was just off.
"When you don't spend a whole lot of time together, things become challenged."
