A 7.0 magnitude struck southern Chile Friday around 3 p.m. ET. The epicenter was located off shore about 267 miles from the capital of Santiago. Although strong shaking was felt inland, there were no major damages. No tsunami warning was issued.
Friday’s tremor struck near 2010’s devastating earthquake that sparked a tsunami, killed hundreds and caused nearly $30 billion. That earthquake struck on February 27 off the coast of the Maule Region and had a magnitude of 8.8.
