Michael Vick Pleads Guilty to State Dogfighting Charge, Could be Eligible for Early Release

Michael Vick, the former star quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, has pled guilty to a state dogfighting charge in Virginia in an attempt to gain early release from prison. He was given a three-year suspended sentence.

In August 2007 Vick was convicted on a federal dogfighting charge and has been serving a 23-month sentence in Leavenworth, Kansas. The 28-year-old is scheduled for release on July 20, 2009 after which he would serve three years of probation.

On Tuesday Vick told the judge “I want to apologize to the court, my family, and to all the kids who looked up to me as a role model.” He pled guilty to promoting dogfighting but not guilty to a cruelty to animals charge that was dropped.
