Flooding in Brazil Claims at least 68 Lives, Leaves More Than 50,000 Homeless

The southern state of Santa Catarina in Brazil has been devastated by recent floods that have left at least 68 dead and more than 50,000 homeless.

Heavy rains have led to landslides which have wiped out homes and buried roads making it difficult for rescue crews to reach those trapped and in desperate need of help. Reports have stated that eight towns have been completely cut off by the surging waters brought on by the recent deluge.

A state of emergency has been declared in Santa Catarina as rescue workers have been using boats and helicopters in an attempt to save those left stranded.

Officials have said most of the deaths were attributed to the landslides that buried people in their homes.
