Eight People Killed in Mexico City Shooting

Mexican authorities say eight people were killed and one person was injured over the weekend in a drive-by shooting in Nezahualcoyotl, a suburb of Mexico City.

Witnesses say gunmen in three cars drove by a street corner Sunday and began shooting at a group of people gathered there. Six men and one woman died while one man was injured. Another woman was shot on a different street. All of the victims were between 16 and 25 years old. Their names have not been released.

The gunmen have not been identified. Authorities say it is likely a drug cartel fighting for control of the area’s drug market is responsible for the attack.

Also on Sunday, four men were murdered at an auto shop in Juarez. Gunmen in two trucks pulled up to the shop and opened fire on the men. The motive for that shooting is unclear. The names of the victims have not been released.
